Atkins Diet

Although Dr. Atkins is gone, his diet still lives on!

You may be unaware of this startling fact: The Atkins diet may be almost as old as you are! It was created by Dr. Atkins in 1972, and it is still going strong for many dieters. This may be because the “Low Carb” diet is all the rage today. The Atkins diet promotes eating a lot of high protein, high fat foods while practically cutting out carbohydrates.

Dr. Atkins has published three books on his extraordinary diet between the years 1992 and 2002. There are also many cookbooks, journals and “specialized” diet books within the Atkins diet in print. Numerous dieters over the years since the creation of the Atkins diet have found a lot of success with this effective, if unusual, diet plan. Although many doctors and health care professionals are now scrutinizing Dr. Atkins diet, they still cannot deny the fact that serious weight loss can be achieved by following it.

You won’t just find the Atkins diet being followed in homes anymore, either. Restaurants and grocery stores have made it a regular part of their offerings. Restaurants have their “Atkins Diet” offerings on the menu, while shelves are stocked full with “Atkins” frozen meals, nutritional bars, shakes and other food items.

Just think…a diet where you can eat almost any kind of protein rich, fatty foods without counting calories! You don’t have to fill out any funny charts or keep a “food journal” to keep track of what you are eating! Watching portions may be a thing of the past! These items are the major draws of the Atkins diet. And when followed correctly, it can lead to major weight loss.

Remember when you decide to start any kind of diet, talk to your doctor or health care professional. The Atkins diet doesn’t conform to what the American Heart Association recommends for a healthy heart because it includes very high levels of cholesterol and fat.
It is also low in carbs, which includes fruits, so you may fail before you begin if you cannot control those “sugary” cravings.

If you find success with the Atkins diet, good for you. It may be right for attaining your weight loss goals.
